Reproductive Health
& AIDS Awareness Camps
aimed at creating mass awareness on
HIV/AIDS/STIs, Reproductive & Sexual Health
issues through a cost-effective & time-efficient
strategy were organized in various slums & Army
establishments of Delhi. It was a collaborative activity
involving number of NGOs
working in the related fields & Govt. institutions.
Each camp was preceded by number of workshops to sensitize
the men & women of the targeted community on
HIV/AIDS/STIs & related issues.
The camps were sponsored by National AIDS
Control Organization (NACO),
Govt. of India. The laboratory support was provided
by National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Delhi,
Govt. of India.
| The
camps had following components |
- IEC: Create
general awareness on HIV/AIDS/STIs, Reproductive
& Sexual health issues including condom
demonstrations, through group discussions,
poster exhibition, printed communication material,
street plays, skits and traditional folk arts.
- Medical Services:
Screening for RTIs including sexually transmitted
Infections and cancer through clinical examination
and laboratory testing.
- Counseling:
On HIV/AIDS/STIs, Reproductive & Sexual
health issues.
- Follow-up:
To provide treatment and Counseling to the
patients positive for STIs and their partners
during follow up visits by a team of Medical
officer & Counselor..
- VCTC:
Voluntary testing for HIV antibodies with
Pre & Post-test counseling. (5 camps had
unlinked anonymous testing for HIV antibodies
as one of the components).
