Drishtikon since Oct. 2004 is a partner NGO of Transport Corporation of India Foundation for it’s nation wide HIV / AIDS prevention project ‘KAVACH’ for truckers community. Two locations Punjabi Bagh transport center and mangolpuri industrial area are being covered by Drishtikon for spreading awareness, bringing about behaviour change and providing clinical and counseling services and social marketing of condoms targeting mainly long distance truck drivers.

  The project goals are
  • To arrest the spread of HIV among truckers and associated high-risk population in India so as to reduce the morbidity, mortality, and impact of AIDS in the country.

Specific Objective:

 1. BCC
The project reaches out to 21,000 trucker in one year, in Punjabi bagh and Mangol Puri for prevention of HIV/AIDS /STIs through
  • One to one interaction
  • One to group interaction
  • Street plays/ Magic shows
  • Peer educators

  2. STI Treatment
The project is being able to provide quality STI services to 1500 truckers in one year i.e. 125 patients/month.

  2. Condom Promotion
  • To promote condom usage, social marketing of condoms is done in Punjabi Bagh and Mangolpuri through condom depot holders.

 Community Mobilization
For supporting and participating in project activities, Secondary Stake Holders at Punjabi Bagh and, Mangolpuri are mobilized through advocacy meetings and Infotainment programs.

A local advisory board has been set up which conducts regular monthly meetings for the organised and smooth running of the program.


 5. Capacity building
To upgrade the level of knowledge and provide appropriate skills to the staff and peer educators to work for prevention of HIV/AIDS/STIs and to be able to deal with issues related to HIV/AIDS/STIs, Reproductive, Sexual Health and management training programs are being organized periodically at the implementation level as well as in collaboration with the funding agency as and when required.
